In Ancient Greece, Medical Schools developed in connection with Asclepeion Temples and Shrines of dedication to Asclepius. The Temple Priests, called Asclepiadae, included snakes in healing rituals. The snakes were considered to be sacred, and slithered on the floors throughout dormitories where the sick and injured rested. Also, the main procedure was dream therapy, in which patients would sleep overnight in the Temple, and supposedly be visited by a God.
